Carhage museum - Tunis Medina - Gala dinner - Sidi Bou Saïd - Pictures
The located close to the former St Louis Cathedral, on top the Byrsa hill, the Carthage museum is taking up former couvent premises. The museum gathers the objects produced by the coming from the site excavations for more than a century. Its collections provide the visitor with a trip through the City history. Abdelmajid Ennalbi, the museum curator, will be our guide for the visit.
The Tunis Medina developed around the Zitouna Mosk, built in 703 AC and therefore constantly rebuilt or extended by the dynasties having made Tunis their capital. In the 15th century, Tunis was a blooming city in the shade of its Kasbah, the high city sheltering the power and the reling classes homes. Down the Kasbah are the souks, which are the crafstmen and salesmen domain. Our guide for this discovery visit will be Mrs Jamila Binous, a historian and a town planner, and a living memory of the old City hisotry.
The gala dinner will take place in a gorgeous Palace of the Medina, the Dar Belhadj restaurant, a famous place for both gastronomy and architecture.
Without doubt one of the most beautiful tunisian villages, Sidi Bou Saïd is the prototype of the masaboutic village. Founded by Sidi (Saint) Bou Saïd, the mausoleum of whom was built on top the hill, the midlle age village dominating Carthage and the Tunis Gulf is a wonderful piece of paradise with Mediteranean colors. Along its cobbled lanes, the passer - by is filled by wonder while discovering the tangled up white discovering the tangled up white houses with blue windows. Heavy nailed doors, open on flourished secret gardens clothed with tiles.
