GENERAL INFORMATION:
Arrival in Tunis
A form will be sent to all conferencees upon registration. It must be filled out giving the departure and arrival flight numbers and schedules and faxed to Tunis (+216-1-872 729, to the attention of Picof). The form will be used to organize welcoming parties at the Tunis Carthage airport.
In case of difficulties, it is easy to get a taxi at the airport (yellow cabs). The fare for the Abou Nawas Gammarth hotel, or one of the hotels close to the Beit El Hikma Palace, a short list of which is attached, is around 5 to 6 Tunisian Dinars, that is to say around 30 French Francs or 5 US dollars.
Please note:
foreign currency is not valid in Tunisia, at least not for
small purchases. You must thus exchange money for this purpose upon
arrival. There are several banks on the ground floor of the airport, on the
arrivals level. Please be sure to keep your exchange receipts in order to
be able to change your money back when you leave Tunisia. Exchange offices
are also available in most large hotels. Payment by international credit
card (Visa, American Express, etc.) is accepted in hotels, tourist shops,
quality restaurants and so on.
Accommodation
Speakers and conferencees who have requested that we reserve a room for
them, will be lodged at the Abou Nawas Gammarth hotel (5 star).
All conference participants staying at this hotel will only pay a reduced price
reserved for Picof participants. The rates are 60 DT (approximately 320 FF
or $55 US) per night for a single room with breakfast included. Dinner at
the hotel is 17 DT (approximately 90 FF or $15 US). Accompanying persons
sharing the same room will only have to pay for their meals, i.e., 10 DT
for breakfast and 17 DT for lunch or dinner. Conferencees must pay for
their room directly at the hotel.
For those conferencees who do not wish to stay at the Abou Nawas, here are a few hotels of different categories, all situated in the neighborhood of Beït El Hikma, and their approximate prices. It is up to these individuals to make their own arrangements.
